Small Group / Study Questions
- Paul writes: “In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” Notice words like “rises,” “being built together,” etc. They speak not only to Christ’s finished work, but an ongoing process. What is God’s end-goal for that process?
- Throughout scripture, we hear the refrain: “I will dwell with them as their God, and they will be my people (or some close variant).” How did the temple serve to accomplish this goal?
- Jesus came, embodying God’s presence. He could have just restored a physical building as God’s temple. Why didn’t he?
- Since the temple was the place where people encountered God, how might your life or your church be a “place of encounter” for others?
- As a temple of the Holy Spirit, you are sacred space. Reflect on that for a moment. How might God be calling you to consecrate yourself for Him? What kinds of things need to go? What needs to be added/included?
- Where do you sense the Spirit is doing a “construction project” in your life right now — joining, purifying, or strengthening you as part of His temple?
Thank you!
